I enjoyed this episode and thought it made a number of sharp points: the importance of things like pronouns and men in dresses; and that the tendency of leading GC figures to overlook issues that are 'the thin edge of the wedge' reflects their strong middle-class bias. That is why we're in this mess. Almost none of our intellectual class detected the warning signs of what was to come.

As much as I am sympathetic to Andrew Doyle, Helen Joyce, Colin Wright and the others, I think EW has much more depth on this issue than most of them combined and imagine that it is the misrepresentation of her views that stings more than the loss of their good opinion. However, if not actually insulting, 'scab' is still a somewhat ugly and dated word and presented them a stick to beat EW with.

So right about the "stick to beat her with". Every ill-chosen word is a potential stick. I am always so sceptical when people unearth 10-year-old 'evidence' of misdeeds and wrong-think.

There's such a demand for content that positions aren't always thought-through prior to publication. IMHO I am looking for the top-brass who have stayed silent on this one.

I am now up to date as of this podcast. Enjoyed them all, well, except for when the content was pissing me off. It's been interesting to learn about what's happening in Australia (and I thought Canada was bad) and I've gained quite a bit of context regarding the X turmoil. You'll be pleased to know you've helped me refine my position. Miss Edie I'm sorry you've been mistreated by a certain crowd on X. I have no respect for those who lash out with childishness when they can't successfully defend their position. By the way are you two in different time zones?

Glad you liked the podcast! Yes, we are in Sydney and Brisvegas. Right now Brisbane is an hour behind because they don't believe in daylight savings. Sydney is an hour ahead because... well when the thermometer soars to 42 degrees, we just want to have more of that.

You both may well have something worth listening to -- or reading.

But expecting people to spend an hour and half listening on the off-chance that you do doesn't seem all that reasonable. You may wish to consider subscribing to a transcription service ...

Seem to recollect Sean Carroll made use of such:

Substack offers free transcription.

No pressure on you if you don't have time to listen to us.

Thanks. I see Substack provides that transcription -- good for them. But it really isn't the same as a post in text where you can easily skim through it.

More tedious than useful.

I'm sorry you find it tedious. We've been asked a few times to do some sharper episodes, but we tend to find that our style is to dig in, expand on the detail, and doing what the kids are undoubtedly calling "unpacking the nuance". Short and sharp has so far escaped us. Edie did publish a some shorter grans on our youtube channel, if you want to spend 5 minutes rather than 2 hours to find out what we think of the eSafety Commissioner you can listen here: https://youtu.be/2G4hD7Y02j4

Re the transcription. It is something I can click on prior to publishing. I haven't so far because I haven't seen the need. But if listeners were interested, I could be more diligent with this. Thanks for the feedback.

👍🙂 No problemo. Ima helper ... 🙂

Though I wasn't saying that your podcast was tedious -- just the scrolling through the transcript. I've periodically copied the whole shebang out to a Word file but that is still rather time-consuming at best. You may wish to pass along some feedback to Substack -- maybe they can do a tune-up. 🙂
